Description of Project: Through this telecommunication center all telephone and telegraph connections in Curaçao are guaranteed. In 1995 the management of Landsradio further decided that in case a hurricane would hit Curaçao in full force, i.e. wind speeds in excess of 210 km/h, this building should still stand. Under no circumstances the delicate telecommunication apparatus could be moved during the building process, since that would result in a direct interruption of the international telephone connections. So AOB designed free bearing space frames, spanning the existing roof structure and carrying prefabricated concrete roof slabs. The outside walls were further stiffened with solid steel trusses. | |
